“Rivière would have me openly sobbing”
Had to go back and check the setlist for that 2006 SNW HoB show I mentioned earlier to see if they played rivière, but alas, they did not. Not sure I’ve ever heard it live. Amazing song though, do you know the origin behind it? Kinda crazy lol.
Here was the setlist from that show:
Rats!Rats!Rats!
Digital Bath
My Own Summer (Shove It)
Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)
Around the Fur
Headup
Beware
Nosebleed
Engine No. 9
No Ordinary Love (Sade cover)
Passenger
Hole in the Earth
Xerces
Minerva
Hexagram
Root
Minus Blindfold
Cherry Waves
Kimdracula
Change (In the House of Flies)
Encore:
Lifter
7 Words
Them was fat chino days. Thought they played combat too but I guess not. And yeah, literally played half of SNW. These days they’d never play half of a new album. Good for newer fans, not so much for us older fans who have heard all the usual suspects numerous times live. Oh well though. I’ll still never miss a Deftones show if I can help it.

That’s a sick setlist.
I saw them in 2011 on the Diamond eyes tour. Fucking Dillinger escape plan opened. Top 5 shows I’ve seen. Was a small, intimate venue mind you

Hell yeah, I saw them on that tour with Dillinger as well at the Hollywood palladium. Saw them at weenie roast on the DE tour too but the setlist was only 30 mins or so.

“my mind is a mountain is one hell of a lead single”
Honestly it was my favorite. I was way more drawn into it than I was Madonna. Not that Madonna was bad by any means. It’s phenomenal. But this album seems to be more in the vein of mountain. And I guess that’s why it’s latched onto me so hard.

realize there's likely no relation and it isn't deliberate, but can't help listening to "i think about you all the time" without it being a callback to "Change (In the House of Flies)" since the lyrics are kind of an inversion

This might be the ultimate grower Deftones album. I might like it better than SNW. Cut Hands has slowly become one of my favorite tracks.

Yeah, even locked club is growing on me. Can't get that chorus out of my head. Just on the fence about the spoken word verses but I'm sure I'll love this one soon enough too lol
No weak spots at all really. Very enjoyable album overall

I’d kill both of you to experience Dillinger opening for Deftones in those smaller club sized venues and not the fucking arenas we’re in today
I’m pretty sure there’s versions of Passenger with Greg floating around and that sounds insane. And in all the years of seeing these guys they’ve never played that song.

Alright, I take back what I said.
I think about you all the time is the best fuckin song they've written since KNY. My 7th run of this record and that one in particular REALLY hit me. Last two minutes of that song are absolutely ethereal.

That would be absolutely insane tho. Idk what happened to bills like that.

I think about you all the time is very you without end coded. I swear I feel that every time that song spins. And it’s easily one of my Deafheaven favs (even if I didn’t like that album so much as a whole)
