I kinda like that one too lol. It has a neatness to it and again, the color pallet works.
I'll tell you guys this, their last 3 album covers are better than the 3 that preceded them (St. Anger, Load, Reload)....

"A bad album with good cover art is still a bad album"
Yes, agreed.
I don't see myself returning to this tbh

'my loads album is probably just load with the filler subbed for the best reload tracks
1. Ain't My Bitch
2. 2 X 4
3. The House Jack Built
4. Until It Sleeps
5. King Nothing
6. Hero of the Day
7. Bleeding Me
8. Fuel
9. The Memory Remains
10. Wasting My Hate
11. The Unforgiven II
12. The Outlaw Torn
13. Fixxxer'
That would be my picks, with maybe 'Where the Wild Things Are' added 'The Memory Remains' dumped

With all the talk about the Load / Reload closers, I may give them another chance.

I can fuck with Doof's list actually. Shows how much potential those albums had. I need to relisten those albums for sure.
As Willie also mentioned, no other Metallica album has made me want to go back and relisten all of their back catalog as much as this one. They can easily close the door with this and go with some level of respect.

Listened up to 'Cyanide' on DM this morning, I still think that album works pretty well and the mix didn't sound as jarring on Spotify (still doesn't 'sound' as good as this one). Hetfield's vocals have definitely improved here, as has the guitar sound.
Thing is I still think 'All Nightmare Long' is possibly their best song since the black album (if not maybe 'Bleeding Me'?) and the first two songs on DM are almost blueprints for 50% of the next two albums and they do that thing about as well as 50% of the next two albums. 'Day That Never' is a 'One' homage but it's still alright, and though I didn't play it this time I still know I enjoy 'My Apocalype'.
Still very close between this, DM and Load for me - going to keep them all on the 3 rating with 'Kill Em All' on the 3.5. Then is shoots up to 'Justice' and 'Black Album' on 4.5s and the two classics on a 5.

this was my takeaway listening back to death magnetic too. his vocals got better on hardwired and got even better here.

I saw that. They're keeping their fans on their toes. That stage setup is pretty cool, too.

this "no repeat songs" idea is brilliant that setlist is varied as hell
they prob haven't played a song from each of load + reload + death magnetic in the same show since like 2008

My order from favourite to least favourite
1 If Darkness Had A Son
2 Crown of Barbed Wire
3 Shadows Follow
4 Chasing Light
5 Inamorata
6 Room of Mirrors
7 Sleepwalking My Life Away
8 You Must Burn
9 Too Far Gone
10 Lux Aterna
11 72 Seasons
12 Screaming Suicide
Funnily the first 3 singles are my least favourite - but i still quite like them. I honestly dont think theres a "bad" song on the album.

Ranked/Rated:
1. Chasing Light [4/5]
2. 72 Seasons [4/5]
3. Room of Mirrors [4/5]
4. Inamorata [4/5]
5. Crown of Barbed Wire [4/5]
6. Lux Aterna [4/5] (I'd expect this song more from recent Megadeth, nice old school rock change of pace though)
7. If Darkness Had a Son [3.5/5]
8. Shadows Follow [3.5/5]
9. Too Far Gone [3/5]
10. Screaming Suicide [3/5]
11. Sleepwalk [2.5/5]
12. You Must Burn! [2.5/5] (So this tracks 3-5 area is what stops this album getting a 3.5)
I'm a harsh rater I guess in that a 3 does equate to actually 'good' and for something to get a 3.5 near enough every song should be consistently very good/excellent. For a 4 rating I'd really want a 'classic' song on there. Above that well, you want at least a few classic tunes.

Tastes are a funny thing. I think You Must Burn! is one of the better tracks, can't get it out of my head.
