I am so close to 5ing this. My favorite stretch of tracks changes basically every two days which is speaking volumes for the quality of this record

'But right now we're easily looking at this, Dvne, Between the Buried & Me, Esoctrilihum, and Deafheaven really without any questions even being asked - which is 5 more metal artists than would normally show up on my list. '
When knockie said we broke Sowing's metal resistance I was thinking 'yeah maybe, but in all the wrong ways' - admittedly there's potential for growth here. Escotrilihum I was not expecting and although Dvne is perhaps not a sign of a future connoisseur, it is a respectable take. I'll refrain from commenting on the others because it ain't pretty.

i think the first 3 Mastodon albums are a bit overrated.
this one is very very good, especially the heavier faster tracks like Pain With An Anchor and Savage Lands. the distinct lack of Brent and Scott Kelly vocals hurts though...
Gigantium is the worst track by far, just can't get into it. way too... celebratory? or something. i wanted a dark gloomy closer dammit.

I actually enjoyed EOS a lot. It could be that there was an emotional component to it, as my mother was diagnosed with cancer around the same time of its release, but there's a lot of good stuff on that album. I think it might rank a bit higher than H&G on my list right now.

I have emotional attach to EoS too. But the album is quite good as well

3:15 into Skeleton of Splendor has to be influenced by Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine

Gigantium makes me think of the band Hum except with 'Don vocals. Maybe even a little Devin Townsend.

This band has the leads. They're face melting. I guess that's what I want from a 'don album

I love Brent Hinds so fucking much. Only he would shrug and casually say Disturbed is gay and "I saved all the best shit for this album with Matt Pike" during the first week of his bands most well received release in a decade. Dude is the Kanye of Metal and I hope he lives forever

That's actually kinda shitty that he would come out and say he reserved his best stuff for a project that isn't his main band. Of all the dudes in the band he seems to be the one with the least amount of chill.
