Don't know how to score this.
I was lucky enough to be in university around the time Svalbard formed. We had numerous shows in Penzance and Plymouth. I think the Pariso split is their best material and seeing the collab was great.
I enjoy Serena singing, but I almost feel this record pushes it a little too far? It's not a bad album, but at the moment, it's my least favourite of the three.

What is with this bands awful lyrics when it comes to political messages or anything regarding women? I'm all for their belief but goddamn, could you at least TRY to not sound like a teenager writing in a fucking diary with these lyrics? Keep in mind instrumentally most of this rips but lyrics definitely take me out of it at times.

I actually tend to not really get that bothered by lyrics to be honset but this bands last two releases irk me with it. Probably cuz it's so straight-forward to the point of lacking any subtlety or nuance. I guess it's not inherently wrong by any means but for me it doesn't appeal and makes me cringe quite often.

which is why I try to not really focus on the enunciation, but their lyrics don't particularly irk me in the first place. the great production mixing the vox in with the instrumentation really helps there by making their pronunciation harder to understand most of the time :P

They did a live set recently, good stuff there.

i agree that the lyrics are super on the nose and tbh I'd probably have more of an issue with that if they weren't screamed.
they're earnest enough that it doesn't sound super corny, but yeah, a little more nuance would serve them well
cheers mars, I'll track that down

Too bad it clicked this week, it would have been in good position on my top 2020 list.
Open Wound and Silent Restraint owns.

I've tried so hard, but I just can't get into this and I don't know why. After the first track, everything bleeds together and nothing really sticks around after I listen to it.

Kind of how I felt after listening to it. I listened to it in full when it dropped over the summer. Felt like an ear assault. I legit felt tired after it was over haha. It's not for me. My rating is reflective of that one listen.

New to this band, found this album on an AOTY 2020 list I'm going through. One spin and I'm pretty hooked, it's excellent.

I agree that the first track outclasses everything else here but it's still a really solid listen from front to back
