while I love Four Lights, and yeah it's heavy, it's also like the most basic and predictable kind of heavy. literally the type of thing most people would make fun of periphery for. so this album they at least tried to find more creative ways of being heavy (1:40-2:00 on chvrch bvrner for example?). idk man, people will never be pleased.

that's like saying a 4 minute Tim Hecker song accomplishes more than a Godspeed song does in 20.

what a silly thread

Four Lights isnt one of the highlights of Alpha and its definitely not one of the good tracks.

As for that part at 1:40 of Church Burner it just sounds like something that would be a breakdown on a TDEP song surrounded by guitarwork that is far more complex and better written than most of whats on here.

You're giving it a 1 because it's not complex enough, just think about that for a moment

"that is not an impossible prospect.. "

that's not what im saying. since when is the goal of all to music to accomplish as much as possible in as short a time as possible? laughing my fucking ass off (yeah i had to type that out for emphasis)

If its Prog then I am going to hold it to the standards of other Prog albums anf if I find it to be basic, boring, and overall underwhelming to a high degree then yes im 1ing it.

I never said that. Brain Drill also got a 1 to me because their music is so messily structured.

side note, since we're talking about comparing to similar bands, how come Meshuggah can chug for 45 straight minutes and nobody says shit but then periphery does it twice in a 16 minute song and suddenly riots break out and sputnik is brought to its knees

I’ve never liked this band but I like Reptile despite the at times bad vocals. If the rest of the album sounds like that I’m looking forward to it.

Darius can you not emo jokes towards me on Sput. Most people dont get the in-joke of you calling me emo or scene instead of goth. This isnt Discord.

it's interesting how Spencer's screams got better over the years but his cleans got about a thousand times worse lol

He was never a very good vocalist, but his clean singing on the first album could be pretty good at times.

Meshuggah have at least somewhat more variation than Periphery do on obZen and Catch33.

Periphery do whatever the fuck they want, if it's a basic riff that sounds good, they put it in their album, they don't give a shit about being progressive
