I'm seeing her in May. I still find her albums frustrating, though. I love her voice, probably my favorite in contemporary mainstream pop, but the production and music behind it seems to vacillate between having some really creative, original moments, and others that are utterly generic, filler-ish, and forgettable... but I keep listening because something about her is really magnetic.
I think it's something to do with how her voice is almost detached from everything else. If her music was a Hitchcock film she'd be the ghostly Madeleine that Scotty follows around like a hypnotized puppy dog while she doesn't even know he exists, and the music would be the city of San Francisco. I dunno... smooth, mystical coolness is the only term I can think of.

Yup. Very well said. That's my main gripe with this album. She's doing amazing while the production just does nothing interesting or original.

and it isn't a good concept on paper and/or in practice
|
| |
If it didn't appeal to the broadest possible demographic then it wouldn't really be mainstream pop at all would it? Plus unlike some of the shittier notable artists around these days like dua lipa, this appeals to some people who wouldnt normally be listening to mainstream pop at all. So yeah, LCD pop isnt far off but it's also not much of an insult considering it mostly just points out how successful she is.

On paper and in concept it makes paper, a good concept for success
