A Gothic Romance on a Music for Nations compilation was my introduction to CoF. Great times.

Ha, I remember downloading a Within Temptation song using LimeWire, it was called ''A Gothic Romance'', and I can tell you, it wasn't Within Temptation...

Are all CoF's vox similar to this one? And what's the other version all about?

Nope, they really aren't. They're much higher on this one, and much more versatile on, say, Midian.

The other version is the original recording, with the line-up of their debut. Shortly after that recording they changed band members and labels and decided to rerecord it, resulting in the 1996 release. They released the original, 1995 recording with Principle-line-up in 2016

I don't like how high-pitched the vox are, they also seem really prominent in the mix so at certain points it's distracting & essentially all I can hear. I can deal with black metal shrieks & screams at times, but not a fan of these ones.

Ah right, thanks. I was wondering if the vox would be different on the other version.

'Yeah, the screeching is extra screechy here' - just noticed this up above, I should probably try some of their other stuff then.

Dani's vocals are an acquired taste for sure. My personal favourite is Midian, but it's less black-metally than this for instance.

You could also try their most recent two, Hammer of the Witches and Cryptoriana, since they're really good (maybe even on par with their earliest output).

And the Original Sin-version of Dusk is on YouTube, so you could give it a go as well. Definitely different sounding than this version.

Have you heard the newest album yet Demon? If not I’d say get on that one, vox aren’t as high pitched all the time and it riffs hard as fuck.

Nope, this was my first CoF experience. That might be the best option then, it seems to have been well received on here. Thanks guys.

Yeah I’d say get on Hammer asap too if you dig Cryptoriana. Both are some of their best albums. You might also dig Damnation, Nymphetamine, Thornography and Godspeed.

Oh man, the Dani vox debate could fill an entire volume of metal history.

But definitely the more growling the better imo. Despite the terrible sound, one of my favourites in that regard is Cruelty.
