I don't care for the intro to "Jaguar God" that much, but once it picks up, it becomes a lovechild between the solo from "The Czar" and "Iron Tusk". And that is jaw-droppingly beautiful.

intro to Jaguar God sounds so much like The Almightiness Contradiction by by The Ocean that I keep thinking it's going to break into that chorus

I'd say Jaguar God is pretty unique as a closer in their whole discography, though I can't recall if they have done the whole structure of starting off mostly acoustic and then growing heavier at the half way mark. So by all means correct me if I'm wrong.
Either way, this album has been growing even more stubborn at my four rating the more I listen to it. Almost tempted to bump it a half mark higher.

Excellent record. The only track I'm not crazy about on here is "Precious Stones".

They haven't really done anything like Jaguar God, but they've got Pendulous Skin, which starts as acoustic and then gets electric, but it's all mellow.

This album just really goes on and on and on and on

Not a big fan of Mastodon but this isn't as bad as I expected tbh. Enjoyed some of it.

Is there a way for me to tell you you're not funny without sounding biased?
Because you're not funny.

Same sort of level as 'Crack the Skye', in other words 'second tier' Mastodon. At least it isn't 'third tier' like the previous two. Very ploddy, very muddy in places, no 'Blood Mountain' pyrotechnics.

Since when are Mastodon trying to sound like Nickleback?

I sort of a agree, but still very enjoyable; certainly an improvement over the last two records.
Hate to pull your coat though, but Doof Crack The Skye ain't second tier Mastodon, that's crazy!

For me it is, where did the intensity of 'The Wolf is Loose' or the unpredictable nature of 'Circle of Cysquatch' go? 'Crack the Skye' is half the album 'Blood Mountain' is as far as I'm concerned...but apparently most fans prefer 'Crack' so the band made a smart move into more trad compositional/rhythmic territory.
I liked the band when they still had an obvious hardcore/punk influence in there. They smoothed that totally out of their sound now.
