the iconic albums by At the Gates, Dark Tranquility, and In Flames are hard to be objective about. they're why a lot of the genre exists. like comparing Odin to Thor or something, idfk I'm just glad we have both

funny that this band is called insomnium because whenever I try to listen to them I fall right asleep!
|

Above The Weeping World is competent, from memory (unremarkable though)…
Maybe I should revisit?

first two albums are awesome yeah but then they fell off for a bit
|
| |
I'm in agreement that they fell off and I would put this at 3rd best probably behind the first two
|
| |
I do like this one a good bit but the first two really brought the riffs. This has some riffs but it's still got that modern insomnium soundscape-y thing going on

Their last two also bring a lot of riffs as well, there's a lot of tremolo riffs that bring to mind the early days of Dark Tranquillity. I relistened to Heart Like a Grave fairly recently and was surprised at how much it grew on me.

guys, ya'll failed. yes this is the best Insomnium album, by far, and no, there isn't a better MDM album than this one unless you want to argue for Character, then I'd probably concede my case. there might be some that are on par, but none are better, sorry guyz

There is definitely an argument for Colony as well.

I listened to almost the whole discography of mors principium est the other day, had to conclude that the genre of melodeath is generally super basic and overrated, there are a few gems like this here tho
