The real debate is between Science Fiction and Daisy, because we all know TDAG > all

TDAG > Daisy > SF > Deja > YFW for me right now although Daisy and SF flip flop practically every other day

Tbh I've still never listened to science fiction
|

If we're talking about strictly BN albums, then it absolutely sounds the most like Deja. I've made the comparison before that they're similar albums but Deja is daytime and SF is night.

syfy is great because how unified it is imo, everything connects. its a mix of everything brand new has tried in the past, with the power of something like pink floyd at points, but also with chilled out joints similar to Jesus Christ
its less abrasive and more melodic than previous albums

right, exactly - although it never has that shit your pants moment like Luca or Vices and tbf it could have used a little more aggression
not that I'm complaining, it's borderline perfect

ooo I'm intrigued now. I love deja

i've always been drawn to chiller music as opposed to shit your pants music, so I'm a huge fan of the shift in style personally. Tho the moment in Luca is still my favorite thing in the Brand New discog.

Screaming? No. Mysterious allusions to forests and death? Maybe.

Deja has more energy SciFi is more mature and elaborate, you'll enjoy them differently depending on your age/maturity/musical preference. For me Deja was a hard 5 when I was 16-22 and now it's like an honorary 5 but I don't really listen to it anymore. TDAG-Daisy-SF trio reigns supreme in my rotation with just the occasional throwback to their first two albums.

This is pretty raucous so I kinda fear for your experience now. I mean you might as well try it but definitely don't expect TDAG level of brilliance.
