Akhlys, Taake, Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Carach Angren.
I am in the "I like Deafheaven" camp for the record, if the 4 didn't already show it. I just barely consider Sunbather black metal, and this is moreso but still not quite there.

I did notice mate haha, was just genuinely asking for your insight on some modern black metal. For some reason i never quite come across modern sounding black metal that i like, i do like a bunch of bands that mix black metal with something else. Yes I know what you mean, probably New Bermuda sounds pretty much what you'd just call black metal though? Sunbather was definitely more on the shoegazing/post metal side, although it had BM material too

TheMoreira, you should try out Altar of Plagues, if you haven't yet! They're more BM-oriented and still retain melodic aspects that make many BM bands/projects so good. Oh, Wolves in the Throne Room's "Two Hunters" would be an excellent choice as well, rules so hard.

New Burmuda is definitely more BM, I suppose it's an okay reference point to "do I like this style of music."
I guess I meant Sunbather more, I need to listen to this again at some point today I remember really liking it the first few listens on day one and was more paying attention to the music than what genre it is.

Hmm I've been meaning to check those guys for ages Zifteruften, will do then!

Ah I see Nazz, fair point. Since my first listen I detected the lack of shoegaze sections, but only just a while ago I actually noticed, per say, that in fact it did bend more to the BM side.

Sunbather and Roads to Judah honestly kick the shit out of this. There's solid moments here for sure, but there's just some poor songwriting to be noticed as well

Kinda the obvious approach for this band to do

Still really, really good.

Still deciding where this stands in their discog. But don't think it could possibly surpass Sunbather for me. That album is just too full of feels.

Actually I'm not into Burzum that much, my current favorite bm is Spectral Lore.
