When I heard it as a single I didn't quite understand how it would fit with The Blacker The Berry and i on the album. But when I listen to the album as a whole, it really flows well. Especially with that jazzy interlude before King Kunta. Perfect.

In the debate of which version of "i" is better, I feel that both serve a different purpose. While the single version gives us a jammin' track that does wonders by itself, the album version, while not a spectacular on its own, does amazingly in the context of the rest of the album. Both of them have their pros and cons.
Also "King Kunta" is funky as shit.
