This is pretty much the Steven Wilson album I was waiting for since the beginning of his solo work

His other albums (possibly excluding Insurgentes) seemed to ape 70s prog a bit too much, at least in my opinion. This is the first Wilson album (solo album-wise) that seemed to have more of an identity. The way he merged the 70s prog elements with a more pop/alternative rock-oriented approach allowed for a more emotive and tightly crafted album as far as I'm concerned. And 3 Years Older would probably be in my top 3 SW songs (even including Porcupine Tree)

i'd say grace for drowning is his most unique solo work so far, followed closely by insurgentes

This album's great. It sort of starts on the wrong foot, but songs like "Routine" and "Ancestral" are among his best.

Storm Corrosion is definitely my favourite thing he's done but it's far from a masterpiece.
