I agree that RAM is overrated, but that was made for the masses, no surprise there. This, on the other hand, is really interesting, the first few bangers really do bang, and the second half provides the chill after the dopamine rush. I'd say it was/is adequately rated, but led to the overhyped follow-up Singularity, which was decent at best.

And when it comes to really-really overrated electronic albums, Burial's Untrue pops into mind at once.

Agreed with everything you said gabba. I thought Singularity was good but def felt like b-sides to this album in comparison. Probably have it rated too high and need to revisit.

i want JH to make another album with bangers like this so badly. there are a few standout tracks on Singularity, but yeah he struck gold on here and sadly hasn't really delivered at this level since then. i always make the same comparison to Daniel Avery's Drone Logic lol, although I do like his later albums a bit too that's another gem. of course i understand they want to progress and move away from more club-friendly tunes i just can't help but go back to those two in particular

I feel Daniel Avery has been a lot more consistent than JH following Drone Logic. Though I haven't loved everything, I appreciate he keeps a good balance of more club music and more chill/ambient tunes. Definitely am more excited whenever he announces something these days

Daft Punk is probably a fair shout but lol Untrue has miles more behind it than anyone else in this conversation (even if Burial hype is played out by now)

yeah I def agree, I actually have the Love+Light vinyl lol (I can hear Pigpen now! turn on ur lovelight) and Ultra Truth was a breath of fresh air. but nothing has really come close to Drone Logic for me in his discog. tbf I may have 5'd it at some point on my other accounts. and I've always thought of this album and Drone Logic as having a similar vibe. Not sure which album I prefer lol I'd have to revisit

“evil take”

Well, I really think so. I gave it another chance few weeks ago, but no, I just don’t get Burial, not in the slightest.

But I will def check Daniel Avery, it went under my radar completely.

check his album Drone Logic for sure, it has a lot of similarities to this but with a little acid house influence mixed in

Hmmm, acid sounds cool, haven’t heard new music that was blurpy in a while
