I can see how people would find this music boring(especially in a live setting). When I saw them in Vancouver however, they blew my socks off! I do think this album is near perfect though. So I guess there is a bit of bias there.

Not bias just truth!

i mean, they're essentially miming. i don't know how anyone could call that good
|
| |
miming
if you could point out a song that sounds exactly like anything they've made id love to see it
|
| |
you've totally misinterpreted what i said.
i mean that when they play live, they use so many backing tracks that they're essentially miming (to their own pre-recorded backing tracks)
|
| |
wow rly they cant even play their shitty music wow bands even worse than i even thought wow
|
| |
I mean p sure that was just ur show/venue
hope u dont think that's what all their shit's like

Yeah there was quite a bit of that at their Vancouver show, but it had to do with the atmospherics and vocal layers. Without prerecorded tracks it would require additional on stage talent(to replicate the album sound). The musicians were always playing their parts and it never seemed like they miming anything to me. But if that's how you felt, that's how you felt.

yeah thats true NA. i've seen them twice koffing it def wasn't just one show or venue. i guess i just wish they would play a more stripped down sound or at least keep the backing tracks to a minimum. i don't know why bands think that they have to make their live show sound exactly as it does on the album.

Yeah. I actually prefer when a band changes it up from the album. Especially when I've heard the record a thousand times
before. If I wanted to hear the record exactly how it was meant to sound, I would put on a pair of headphones.

This was disappointing... Only really liked Proxy, Nocturne and that sax solo. It wasn't bad but It just failed to keep my interested

I felt that all the material on Altered State was of a similar quality. Perhaps was it their overall sound that dragged on too long
for you?

Yup pretty much. Individually each song is good, but together they all sound the damn same which is why the songs with sax stand out.

Yeah I agree with that too. I actually remember thinking that they could have possibly used more sounds throughout when I listened to this for the first time. Vocals kind of put me off too but hopefully that'll just grow on me

Also, did they need to condense everything into 4 songs? Some of them lack flow from one another as a result and would be better off by themselves than in the middle of a 13 minute track

Of energy is a perfect closer.

They sounded pretty fake at Soundwave, the shitty mixing didn't help either.
But they sounded so tight when I saw them with Dan.
I think the new stuff is harder to pull off live.
