“Hey my question was serious. I don’t know what the fuck this album title means and I never have lol”

complete speculation on my part but could it be the moment of no return, or when a person goes ‘pop’ rather than the string. It’s the end of any joy associated with childish playfulness, and the start of a downward spiral towards personal oblivion. Some kind of metaphor.

The clown on the cover is interesting too, as clowns are scary to many people. So perhaps this represents fear or possibly madness as you unwittingly embark on this unwanted journey to your personal hell

okay I went too far here I think, lol

Yes I think the album title is about "snapping" and going so far gone.

As for the cover, the story I heard was Rotten Records selected it for shock value and forced the choice against the band members. But it sounds like that Rotten suggested it, and the band members liked it according to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rakm_VQ_2Q

The clown is John Wayne Gacy. He is well known in clown fandom.

idk it can 'pop off' maybe, makes me think of balloons not kites tho, maybe it's the clown (which the band had nothing to do with... hmm)

anyway I'm gonna make a cover album using very different instrumentation...

I always just imagined it being synonymous with "snaps" or "breaks", using "pop" as the verb tho gives it a different emphasis, like you can hear a cartoonish pop sound as the string snaps

good serial killer music m///

Yeah the whole "snapping" mixed with the mental illness themes within the album suggests the album title is also a play on how some people with psychosis struggle to accurately convey their internal experience (hence the string popping and not the balloon). Alternatively, I think of the balloon being secured and held by the string (sanity) and when that string pops the balloon is untethered and floats away no longer in one's control (insanity).

Plus there's also the expression "high as a kite", and the band allegedly had some insane LSD trips back in the 90's, to the point that Dax was seriously concerned about the consequences.
