Huh I don't know if I'll ever check this. Yet to get really excited about this band even though I like their well-regarded records well enough.

With the amount of crap gore gets for it's weak lyrics i find it surprising that the same isn't applied to S/T

Lyrics on here are better tho

I actually really dig some of the lyrics on here
I can't say I've analyzed all of them, but none of them ever stood out as weak to me as the ones on Gore

They'll never top White Pony but this album has as strong a claim to 2nd in their discog as any. The only issue is that it doesn't have the unifying theme that White Pony does.

the theme is weak though, then again I don't dig white pony outside a few songs. to me this is a stronger release.

To me, the theme of white pony is the keyhole of cocaine influenced dreams. I relate to it and also find it endlessly fascinating. I do agree that the songwriting here is arguable stronger, as is the atmosphere on individual tracks. The only thing missing here is a cognitive thread tying the songs together. Unless I'm missing it, but I've had the record since the day it dropped. If anyone can enlighten me, I believe it would be you Wolfe.

Honorable mentions to You've Seen the Butcher, Phantom Bride and Beware.

That's the thing: I don't nor couldn't connect to it that way myself. AtF, WP, and this were around heavily during my younger years of skateboarding/first romances days. There's no theme to this, it romantic correlations of the overall atmosphere and of my experiences connect me that much more. The heaviness of this amd AtF appealed to me more, and with also learning guitar I prefered the riffs and tuning they implemented over drop C (Meshuggah blew my mind in those days too).
long story short: lot of factors had me loving this more than White Pony, not that I dislike it but I don't carry heavy nostalgia for it outside of a few songs - street carp fuckin sucks too.
