Cowboys and Power Metal are all that's for me in Pantera. This album's okay though.

Power Metal and Cowboys are it???

Oof. We are not on the same page. If you were my son, I would abandon you.

Not really, I would just take you to a facility or something where someone could look after you to make sure you're ok but still.

Hmmm. T/t and War Nerve for starters are 90’s metal folklore. Drag the Waters drags on a bit ok. 10’s and SN pt 1 are haunting and Pt 2 is a face melter. And the last 4 songs are really underrated metal tracks. Dime’s guitars on Floods are particularly nice

Preferring power metal pantera to post-cowboys pantera is like preferring Godfather 3 to 1 and 2

Both albums are great for different reasons imo. I like Power Metal for its traditional metal sound, and this one for its dark atmosphere and aggressive-as-hell riffs

The obvious answer is that this is a lot more original than power metal and benefits from its proximity to the peak of Pantera's cultural relevance

But also it is, against all odds, compelling on a lyrical level in a way proooobably none of their other albums can boast

And also in a way pika is unsurprisingly unreceptive to

Right right but pika-approved southern rock is generally a lot less angsty yeah?
