the guy might have been confused because a lot of 'underground' bands try to pass themselves off as 'experimental' when they're really just math rock, post-hardcore/progressive, or prog metal/djent.

I can't tell if that was an insult or just a general statement o.O
Agreed about that part. I think shit gets tagged with experimental when it sounds "weird" to music fans who aren't real genre savy. This band obviously gets tagged as experimental because of their use of sound clips, occasional use of instruments not normal found in metalcore and non-traditional song structures
