^^ lol holy shit. No, Drake is definitely R&B and if you think he isn't then I doubt you know much about the genre. Yes I agree sometimes all black singers are "thrown" into that genre but Drake definitely falls into that and he sings lol.
and Drake's production >>>>> Lupe's really corny-ass beats on that mixtape. And wat. Drake's lyrics are like 100% insight.

"lets be honest, Drake doesn't sing he harmonizes"
What? Pretty sure he sings quite a lot

You have to sing in order to harmonise
That's part of singing

omg listened to the Make Me Proud sample and the first thing Nicki says: THEM BITCHES
Like it's a mandatory line for every song and her voice I can't even

@Aphrodisiac: lol but it's true! Do I have to start copying and pasting dissections of lyrics again? You have to scratch past the surface into the subtext of the lyrics.

The samples were pretty decently average until that, or the moments when Drake started rapping
And there was at least one thing ruining each decent song, like The Weeknd (in Crew Love) or autotune (Over my Dead Body, ... okay, everywhere)

Why were you saying Nicki's feature was a sample?
and The Weeknd's part in Crew Love is amazing, + do we really have to go over the "auto-tune =/= bad" argument? He's obviously not using it as a crutch but as a tool.
|

Meant iTunes samples
Okay, fine, now that I listened to it again that Weeknd duet with Drake in Crew Love isn't as grating as I thought. Seems like a high from the album.
It's when autotune is obvious (see: Attack Attack!) that it goes from acceptable to bad in hip-hop. Unless you like T-Pain.
Honestly though this isn't my genre, the only hip-hop artist I really listen to is Epik High (...Korean but EPIC)

some T-Pain can be AWESOME tho. And in R&B and hip-hop it can set certain moods and atmospheres
sometimes and other times it can be used to terrible effects. But I guess the fact that hip-hop isn't
your genre kind of explains it a bit.
and yes it IS my job to convert everyone to liking Drake so they can be enlightened.
|
| |
I suddenly have an urge to convert everyone who likes Drake to Epik High
So Epik High is the best
Evidence:
Their English song:

Korean song with lyrics:

And almost everything else they've done
|
| |
Actually the Korean version of the English one is much better, but they both rule

And my absolute favorite (after that first 10 seconds) is One:

I really, really, despise Drake. I see no talent in his music (or better yet.. noise). Plus his voice is just god-awful
