It’s cool, different strokes and all that. Not a matter of learning; I gave them plenty of chance to grow on me. A much better example of understated beauty, imo, is Banshee Beat. And I was going to say Street Flash (Water Curses), but then I listened to it just now, and it’s more like understated scary, lol.
This is one of the things I find fascinating about them. Take Graze (Fall Be Kind) for example--without the second half of that song, if they had just stretched out the first couple minutes as its own track, I wouldn’t like it one bit after a couple listens, but instead the flute comes in and it’s like, oh shit; now the first two minutes are an essential intro. I know that you’re saying it’s all essential to Feels as an album; I just don’t enjoy that meandering for more than a couple minutes at a time. I guess I’m just a sucker for hooks. Smaller doses of meandering are great, but you put Daffy Duck and Loch Raven together, you’ve got over ten minutes of yawning from me.
I do tend to prefer mid and up-tempo songs in general, but that’s another great thing about them--they can blow me away with a slow track like I Think I Can. Or wait, does that count as mid-tempo? Well, Street Flash is a great slow one.
