i stopped listening to them around when the alchemy indexes came out so never listened to beggars. only albums i can really remember are the artist in the ambulance and the illusion of safety. will give this a listen though, i love the artwork.

"It's like a crappy christian version of beggars"

Which was also a very highly Christian album tbh

Why? I mean, I'm not Christian at all but I feel like it's nice to hear what keeps them going

Beggars may have been christian conceptually, however, the lyrics here are overtly in-your-face Christian. This limits the range and scope of the songs. Sorry bro

I'm a Christian and I can still enjoy music with atheistic undertones, so I don't get why the Christian undertones should bug people.

I can see what you mean, I guess; I suppose I don't really see a huge difference in the amount of religious influence in the lyrics for each album though

I've said this before, but Beggars had concrete concepts - 1984=Doublespeak The Death Penalty=Wood and Wire Love between Two People=The Weight Ruining the World=All The World Is Mad.

Major/Minor simply does not define itself as clearly and strongly.

tbh i didn't even really notice the lyrics on this album yet, but everything else about the album would more than make up for it. not that i'm even saying the lyrics suck or anything

"I fucking hate Christian undertones in bands."

Truth of the matter is that some of the most intimate and personal lyrics are often spiritual in nature (naturally...). And since most Americans are Christian, it's natural that this spirituality is reflected by Christian references and allusions in the music.

I don't know why it's a bad thing. Many of the bands I like are overtly Christian or have subtle undertones even I dislike the institution of Christianity as a whole. It doesn't mean you can't relate.

"Seriously potato! So annoying to hear Christians try to prove their faith." not like i'm a christian or anything but as someone with no bias it is equally annoying to listen to people bash christians out of nowhere. christian side does have a little more ignorance but atheist side definitely holds more arrogance.
