I think the production on this keeps me from really loving it, sounds kinda washed out and I really don't like how some of the drums are panned to one side

Weakest on here is It Aint Easy and even that is a pretty good tune. Lady Stardust and Moonage Daydream are the highlights for me for sure

I listened to this for as my first Bowie album a few years again and genuinely didn't get why it was so beloved on first listen, but it's grown on me so hard since then. Very near 5ing this.

Low and Blackstar are still my only Bowie ventures, but I love them both

still struggling with the tinny, trebly production on this but some of the songs are undeniably pretty great

Was also not in love with the prod at all when I first checked this (especially compared to comtemp stuff like T. Rex, which has such a great full sound) but I really think the strength of the songs shines through
plus there's a nostalgic/wistful vibe (even better with the benefit of actual nostalgia lol) to Five Years/Soul Love/Lady Stardust and maybe even Star (most underrated track??) that does kinda suit a tincan-speaker aesthetic. Would love a bit more weight behind the rockers though

I can see how it would work better on speakers yeah. I’m just not a speakers guy though. do his later albums have different production? cause I had more or less the same gripe with Hunky Dory

Yeah tbh, I'd say Aladdin Sane was a small step away but the prod on Young Americans onwards is way different (esp the Berlin albs)
