The key for me to really understand how great this album was is to forget about the singles they put out for it (In my opinion, they didn't do the whole album justice in any way) and listen to it many times, and focus on the LYRICS! Not just the beats.
Sure, Kno is probably the most consistent and underrated producer in hip-hop, but for this particular album, more-so than the others in my opinion, his production is a little over the top. It doesn't quite do as great of a job as backing the touching and insightful vocals of Natti and Deacon, and that bothered me when I first heard it and when I had only heard the singles. The more and more I listened though, the brilliant moments of the record started to really outshine the repetitive ones, and it revealed itself.
On paper, the production of this album is 5/5 easily. In my opinion though, that faulted it in parts and made it drag. Once you begin to look at it differently, it opens itself up. The beats try to cover up the incredible lyrics in places

the singles to this were mediocre, but i too had trouble getting into this one. at the end of the day, its enjoyable, and this group are so consistent, its hard to rate down
