are you generally not one for the sort of auto-tuned rnb feel or is it a specific lyrical or vocal aspect that bothers you? I love the beats on that album.

Heartless is the only dud on 808's. Otherwise, the autotune actually sounds good (and emphasises the cold, robotic feel of the album).

Oh, and Welcome To Heartbreak is, like, the best song ever or something

A little bit of both, to be honest. Kanye West's persona alone is off-putting, but his music is so mediocre pertaining to lyrics and vocals specifically. R&B is a frustrating, boring genre IMO.

mostly agree gyro but 808s is an incredible record which i actually would call one of my most important records of the decade if only to prove that autotune has a non-disgusting use and can be employed tastefully. i love that album.

Adam, I think it can be employed more tastefully than it was, but I see why people like it as much as they do.

As for Recovery, it brings Eminem back to his zenith of The Marshall Mathers LP. While he's not as aggressive and just generally fucked up as he was on that album, he's still got venom and motherfucking spirit. The raps are intense, the lyrics are brilliant, the production is TOP NOTCH, the emotion is TOP NOTCH

And hell, I even like the choruses

I actually LIKE that he's not as fucked up/crazy as he was on MMLP because that was done just for shock value and the Eminem we hear on Recovery is much more real and believable.

@ Inveigh
If you enjoyed the shock value tactics of SSLP and MMLP you're probably not going to like this

I was never that crazy about Slim to begin with. I thought SSLP and MMLP were good, but a little too gimicky and The Eminem Show was at least pretty entertaining. Everything since then just sounds like he's trying too hard and it's too poppy or overproduced or something for my tastes.

lol at someguest being all serious

and yeah, I'll give Recovery credit for being way more real than all his other albums, which is why I originally had this at a 3. But I keep trying to listen to it and enjoy it and it's just not working for me
