The fault is also on the producer's side, though - he gave Spencer's highs terrible harmonies that make him sound even more unbearable.

Spencer's voxals on the Icarus EP showed some improvement. I think Chris Baretto is just an all around better musician than Spencer though.

This band has some potential. I usually love vocals on the cleaner side with my metal but this guy was pretty annoying IMO. Almost power metal annoying. Obviously these djent bands are heavily influenced by Meshuggah but Meshuggah is unique enough to spawn a subgenre to me. I never really could categorize them. All metal subgenres started somewhere (if we're calling Djent a subgenre).

Djent isn't a subgenre. Fredrik Thordenal just creating a way to play guitar. Not really a sub-genre in its entirety.

So what would you call it then? Djent is a subgenre of prog metal to me. So its like a sub-subgenre. At this point in metal with almost everything having been done thats about the best somebody is going to do in regards to creating something new.

Its like how Funeral Doom is a subgenre of Doom Metal or Technical Death Metal is a subgenre of Death Metal or Symphonic Black Metal is a subgenre of Black Metal or Mathcore is a subgenre of Metalcore and so on.

Its not a sub-genre. Just cause it has its own wiki page doesn't mean shit. I've said this before and I'll say it again.

Look dude even crabcore has its own wiki page.

It has its own distinct sound though. You cant just call them Prog Metal because these bands sound nothing like other Prog Metal bands. How a band plays guitar determines what kind of genre they're in most of the time doesnt it?
