Also, really Simon Philips rapes the shit out of Alan Moore

Phillips always sounds so vigorous despite not being a metal drummer. The brief galloping at around 1:35 into Diamonds & Rust works so well

jazz drummers tend to have the ability to play whatever the hell they want

that doesn't happen that often with rock/metal drummers

Philips was their best drummer, with all due respect to Les and Scott. The drumming enhances the songs so much on this record, something that is hard to say and justify about their other albums.

I mean, I have Sad Wings 5'd and it is by far my favorite JP, but I've got to admit its drumming is meh as hell

according to Setlist.fm, Raw Deal has been played live only two times (back in '77). Does anybody now if there's a recording of that? Haven't found anything on youtube

I've listened to A LOT of Priest bootlegs and there are very few from '77 (only two can be found online, iirc, San Antonio and NYC). They didn't play Raw Deal at either of those shows.

damn, I hate when that happens

I would love if bands recorded at least one live version of each of their songs... for the fanbase and for later historical purposes, it is sad to know there are songs you'll never appreciate live
