Can we just talk about how good this album is?
I Think this is the best thing Trivium have done and it makes me rather butthurt that the last 2 albums were so crap compared to it.
I stand by my 4 firmly.

In Waves had a few good songs, Caustic was dope.

I am hoping for a return to this sound, they are all great musicians and it sucks that Travis left.
I hear he was an ass to work with.

i don't think they will return to this sound at this point in time, unfortunately. working with draiman was a huge misstep. they're trying to crossover more into the mainstream with moves like that. i wish they would focus more on good songwriting, which i know they are capable of. vengeance falls was lazy and uninspired. in waves at least had some great ideas and songwriting (caustic, of all these yesterdays).

The songwriting here is top notch with just right amount of showing off.
I don't really see the whole mainstream thing as bad if the quality is there you know?
Sometimes I feel like the band doesn't really know what they want. In the earlier years it was playing as fast as possible, next was appealing to the "real metal" fans (which actually worked for them when it never does for most bands) and now they are sitting on this very melodic approach with much of the excess stripped back.

nothing wrong with mainstream as long as its good, but thats a very tough thing to pull off imo. in waves was a great album that showed some growing pains at times but it showed promise for the future (not that i wasn't disappointed that they didn't stick with this style, but still). i still can't really wrap my head around what they were thinking with vengeance falls
