I'm not saying he should go crazy but that's his calling card. Even on past opeth albums they appeared much more frequently, or at least i feel like they were. A minor nit-pick that really had no effect on my rating.
I also feel his growls have become much less inspired, kind of like he was doing them just because he is mikael akerfeldt. I think they should just do away with them for Opeth because their sound really isn't Death Metal anymore and his singing is much better than it used to be.

It's a great song but the vocals just dont have the power of older opeth albums and newer other projects of his like bloodbath or whatnot (i'm really not a bloodbath fanboy it just supports my opinion in both of these cases)
his harsh vocals seem to lack that power of old and is more like him going through the motions

I think they're pretty much the same as they have always been. I will agree that they might have been a little more brutal on albums like Orchid and MAYH, but it doesn't hurt any of their albums after those.

gah this keep growing off of me with every successive listen. It's still great, but i just
listened to Still Life prior to this and this seems much weaker. Still, Heir Apparent,
Lotus Eater, and Hessian Peel are enough to keep this a low 4.
