i dont know whta the hell green day can do for their next album, they could play it safe with something like "American Idiot II". I hate this album mainly because in every music store about 80% of the band t shirts are this album cover (and 15% are fall out boy)

Not really. Dookie's been done. It doesn't need a clone from the very same band.

If they played songs such as their b-sides for their next album, it would be a smart progression. Those songs are good, poppy and punky, but better than 80% of AI. Shoplifter, Too Much Too Soon, and I Fought The Law ftw (even if two of em are covers)

I thought Fortunate Son was a pretty good song too, thats the one they lent to Rock Against Bush.

It's an amazing album and people who dislike it obviously just have in for Green Day or have no appreciation for good music. Green Day have not sol out whatsoever - they took a huge risk making a concept political album and to their benefit it paid off and now they reaping the rewards they trul deserve. This album is my favourite all time album and i am by no means a nOOb or teenie when it come to music whatsoever - i have a very broad taste in rock music in general from the likes of AC/DC, Guns N' Roses to Nirvana, Green Day and the Red Hot Chili Peppers but American Idiot tops it all - so many good songs and the 9 minute songs are a stroke of genious. Green Day have took pop-punk/rock to a whole new level and deserve to be 1 of the biggest bands in the world today like it or not so get over it (you are all getting to the point of sounding like emo's and they are the type of people you criticise - hypocrites!)

Yeah, honestly Chrismond, you have no idea what you are talking about. I used to really like this album and think it was really ambitious, etc., but then I discovered this site, and found that I wasn't even close to having a diverse music taste (and I find that I still don't). I still have a special place for this album in my heart, but I now know that's its truly not as great as I once thought.

If you hang around this site a little longer, maybe you'll learn that too.

That's because they did take it to a new level with Dookie. It's really quite undeniable. They didn't do anything new with this album though.

Yeah, I was refferring to this album. Although, I don't really think they took it to a nwe level with Dookie either. It's a great album sure, but nothing too unique.

People who dislike this record are just people who dont like this record. Saying that people who dont like this record have no appreciation for good music is just dumb. You are free to give your opinion, but expecting everyone else to agree with it is just snobby.

Yeah, I hate it when people trash this record and everyone who listens to it, but I hate it even more when people trash the people that dont listen to it.

more people should listen to the lesser known songs on american idiot, like st. jimmy and homecoming. in my opinion, those are the best two songs on the album
They didn't take pop-punk to a whole new level when Dookie came out. I'd say they pretty much invented it. Who could you say was pop-punk before them? No one. The Ramones are close but they weren't pop-punk to the extent that Green Day is.
Who was before them? Ever listen to Descendents? Buzzcocks? Generation-X? I guess not. They didn't invent anything. They just helped in making it a lot more mainstream and popular. This Message Edited On 10.17.06
