So saw them in STL tonight - I didn't recognize two songs which means they were either Quintessential or Utopioid.

They played Red in Tooth and Claw (!), Ryu, A Determinism of Morality(!) and King Ivory Tower.

Fucking killed it as always.

I also asked Matt about why they haven't played any TGS stuff since W/L came out and he gave a pretty honest and legit answer. Said it was a combination of having a lot of their gear stolen at the end of the cycle, playing it for the better part of 5 years and not feeling like it was connecting, being teenagers when they wrote it, and now literally not knowing how to play it. He also said they are all pretty blown away that TGS is now being regarded so highly.

I previously said in this thread that I got the impression they were a bit elitist about metal stuff, but I didn't get that impression at all tonight. Matt and Armine appeared genuinely grateful that I was talking to them about their work. 10/10 would crush again.

These guys were so good live. Ended up getting this on vinyl. Now I just need a second record player to complete the experience RIP my wallet. Also, according to the band, the secret ingredient in TGS' recipe wasn't any specific pickups or instruments -- it was recording it on Windows 98 lmao

Are you talking about the one from Translation Loss? I read the description as one record has all the songs and counter parts in the same package but on different vinyls so you would still need to play two records at the same time.

Am I confused about this?

The vinyl plays both cd 1 and 2 at the same time but it is split into 2 vinyl sets

Set 1 is the first 3 tracks with the ambient then set 2 is last 2 tracks with ambient

Hmm more stories...

Nothing else substantial really. If you've seen Audio/Visual there is a segment where they talked about going through disputes with Translation Loss after ADOM was released. My band opened for them on that tour and like 3/4 of them were super, super sick. They stayed at my drummer's place that night, and before I learned how sick they were (and also saw audio/visual five years later for context about that tour) I initially thought they were stuck-up jerks. I think even earlier in this or one of the other album threads I kind of still carried that impression, based on them giving less and less attention to their early stuff. Turns out they were just going through some shit.

I honestly still hold out hope that they revisit TGS material live at some point. I think the response to the repress has been really strong.

What would you guys recommend? Listen to the discs consecutively or at once? 2 hours is kinda overbearing
