Hard to compare their older stuff to their newer because the sounds changed so much, but of their older stuff Tales is by far the best.

^This.

But if you ignore the fact that the albums were made by the same band, Silent Water is the best album.

And never before a change of lead singer has made so much good to a band.

While I do find your willingness to break from established points of view regarding the classics of Progressive/Death Metal bands such as Amorphis, i find certain statements a little over done. "Perfect"? While I am impressed by your devotion to this admirable piece of art, this is going to far. Despite the chilling simplicity and beauty displayed throughout, it is that very simplicity that can detract form the excellence of an individual song.

For example, in Silent Waters, an excellently written cord progression is used throughout. However, many apt opportunities for even more excellent improvisational divergences are ignored. Instead a repeated scale derivative is used between verses. While I do live this sing, i merely feel that they tried to hard to be accessible, and through that choice, miss the chance the be so much more then their already excellent self
