The quirkiness wears thin and really interferes with the amazing parts.
But those are amazing parts.

Complete opposite for me...whenever i listen to Alaska, it's just a blur and the solo from Selkies...this has so many awesome moments and is just all around more interesting

alaska is far more interesting. this album feels like one of those albums only musicians can fully appreciate.

I play guitar and drums, but honestly this is nothing special to me. I can barely sit through it and it's a record where I'm like "I can't wait until that one part" instead of liking the whole song.

Alaska was my favorite album by BTBAM until this came out, and I honestly think this is 10x's better than Alaska. No exaggerations. Something seemed to click with this album.
And somehow Mike Portnoy could be impressed by the musicianship on this album but the guy above me is just too good for it.

This is a fabulous album and so too was Alaska, although I would say this is better. I found it easier to get into Alaska but after excessive listening to them both this one comes up trumps more often than not!

Im giving this album a 5.0 but to fully appreciate it you have to enjoy almost any kind of music, my music interests ranging from depeche mode to Frank sinatra, Dredg, Modest Mouse, radiohead, Mastodon, mongolian throat singing and some hip hop and several other bands you wouldnt associate with eachother, BTBAM's ability to incorporate other genres into there music is what makes them stand out, also there lack of an "image", they dont all wear black or look the same they just look the way any 5 guys would and play music, I'll continue to buy their albums until there's none left, I love this music and I always will, I get sick of the same ol' same ol'

I could see how the other songs are too much pendulum and not enough poet for you...but how can you not enjoy the loveliness of Prequel to the Sequel...i've yet to find someone who didn't like that or Viridian for that matter or the opening track...(this is in relation to your sound off)

One of those rare albums you tend to like in it's entirety. The last song is an absolute epic. I can hear influences from everywhere.
