I might have to listen to this again soon and see if my opinion changes. To be clear, I don't criticize it for abandoning the band's growls and death metal elements... moreso that I think the album's pretty disjointed and unfocused

Edit: Okay yeah this is pretty magnificent... Never really took proper care to check this, and when I heard this first this didn't sound like 'Opeth' to me (production wasn't metal and heavy), but now, hearing this is as a dynamicly produced prog record, it's so good...

It's evocative of a completely different atmosphere, so I can't compare it to Damnation/Deliverance. But it *is* the best cover of their classic prog era. PC is shit, Sorceress and ICV are nice but very muddy.

personally disagree, those were simple and to the point, this just comes off pretentious, and it could be significantly better if they didnt photoshop their heads onto it like that. just the tree with nothing on it would've been 1000x better.
also so happens this is probs my least favorite album of the classic prog era, pale communion might be my favorite of those.

yea i dont like hate it or anything but its that little thing that bugs me. its like it could be way way better without the stupid photoshopped heads. and yeah this album just. exists. maybe its because i was hoping for more Damnation-esque stuff here but i found it to be painfully average.
