I wouldn't say underappreciated per se, but I do think it's weird how Opeth have been a prog death band for so long, yet the bass was so low in the mix compared to other acts in the genre.

Different bassist but, the bass in Morningrise < 3

mh idk always thought the bass was a constant highlight at least for GR, Watershed and Morningrise (plus the current era). BWP has a nice presence too especially the slappy t/t and Dirge

it has its moments, but rarely a highlight. Lives are much better imho.

weird tbh but admittedly I almost never jam a regular CD/stream for Opeth so maybe we literally hear different things

Oh man yes, the slappy BWP t/t bass is superb too. I never really hear many people talk about Mendez, but perhaps that's just me. He really deserves to be mentioned too!!

This album is nearly 10 years old.. God damn, time is flying.

Wow to me it feels older because I spent so much time with it. They're a productive bunch too, so the fact that three records were released after this is also twisting these ten years into something that feels longer.
Oh well!

You can really ride to the prog noodles of the devils orchard and it's beautiful

This is such perfection. "The Devil's Orchid" brings all of the beauty and twisted darkness together, preparing you for the journey to come. Nothing like it.
