Yeah for some reason I grew out of the whole "love music as it is" thing 10 years ago. Now I'm more into analyzing it. I look at how it works as well as the subjective, emotional parts. It's pretty weird yeah.

I think it's fine to listen to music you don't like on occasion to see what's there and to keep your tastes well rounded, but to do it continuously when you know you'll dislike it seems like it would make you bitter.

Try studying or doing something while listening to drone instead of analyzing it and focusing on it too much. That way it will just fall into the background. You'd prob end up enjoying it a lot more.

I don't know. I think that claiming music is meant to be background noise is a pretty weak defense for it. I don't necessarily
think it can't be a main attraction on its own either.
