what eg says is so true, it's as if using the word "Jazz" means that the whole song gets a de facto upgrade

and personal preferences aside, the person who used that description might have no clue about jazz music

I kinda get it. A jazz influence does make most things more interesting

Yesh, Jazz wouldn't mean much more than 2-4, syncopations and light hits fpr a band like Opeth. But in context, I think we understand that it's just not your typical metal style(i.e. 1-3, blast beats)

For me it certainly does, yeah. I'm a huge sucker for the looser feeling, the rhythmically interesting (improvisational, polyrhythm/syncopation, solo's for rhythm section) nature that most jazz has. Introducing these kinds of elements to other genres (doesn't matter if it's in metal, techno, hip-hop, electronic, pop, indie, shoegaze, etc.) almost always makes me happy.

For me Jazz works like a spice. Always want it there, but can't consume it on its own

I consume it by the truckload, perhaps Jazz works like cheese for me then. Always want it there, also eat it on its own.

I used to think that too, but then I went through a jazz phase a couple of years ago and I really started to really get why people like it so much.

Also yeah, the fact that most types of popular music tend to stick to 1 and 3 stresses makes 2 and 4 really refreshing whenever it does pop up

Jazz is the most addictive genre to me. Could (and do) listen to it for weeks on end. Not too much into fusion though, perhaps it'll happen someday, but I greatly prefer 50s-60s stuff.

"Yes yes yes Axe's drumming especially on Nepenthe omg Omair are we the same person?!"

I'm in your head Trif muahaha

I myself am more inclined towards jazz fusion over jazz, but appreciate both. So I guess we're not the same person after all Trif

Hmm, good, good, I think that's a good thing. We can then still learn from each other and all.

And bump awesome threads which otherwise would see no traffic at all! Looking at you ADHD (with Mythodea of course)!

Average is still ridiculously low though. Must be the dead accounts from ten years ago who keep the rating low.
