Damn has insanely high highs and some low lows

Yeah the good parts are good but so much of it is just unremarkable to me. That and “mellow singy Kendrick” is just not what I listen to Kendrick for and there’s a lot more of that on that record than on any of his others

I still like the album it’s just far and away his weakest for me. The most “commercial for the sake of being commercial”. But humble hit over a billion plays on Spotify years ago so clearly it did what he set out for it to do… just wasn’t my favorite

Also DJ drama anywhere just makes a project more difficult to listen to. Westside Gunn’s latest one has a Dj drama free version and it’s MILES better. Dude is just fuckin annoying.

Hell yeah. DNA, Element, and Yah are such a combo. If the whole album was on the level of those, XXX, and Duckworth, it could be a 4.5 or 5.

That Westside Gunn song Flygod Jr had him on it, but I think it was more that he was easy to tune out and got out of the way quickly rather than being good or bad. He certainly doesn’t have a ton in the way of personality.

I was worried he'd lost it when he released DAMN. Thought he'd go full lame-ass mainstream going forward. Really happy DAMN was just a hiccup and we're back to getting really high quality releases since. Also think both this and especially MM are pretty underrated on here.
