If anything, Owls was more zeitgeisty than people realized at the time. Everyone and their mother loved that album, and now that they're over it (and after the meh follow-up), they're calling the band overrated. Rivers of Nihil had their moment and got to tour extensively off of that album's success, but they were never big enough to warrant being labeled "most overrated".
Same goes for Blood Incantation. 400+ Sput ratings makes this album a unicorn these days. It might not be what diehard fans of the band wanted and it might appeal to an audience way beyond the confines of the death metal sphere, but that doesn't make it a mediocre effort in my book.
Band is properly rated and rightfully praised, even if the result of their genre-mashing may fail to fully please both certain enfranchised metalheads and people more interested in retro electronica.

pantera have like 3-4 good songs, which is not a lot and has sold too many albums
but
their fans are not opeth or tool fans

Don't get the negativity against Rivers of Nihil.

"their fans are not opeth or tool fans"
lumping these two together makes me unsure what this represents. If this is 'something something precious and pretentious nerd rage something', then I've encountered levels of ridiculousness far beyond the former when engaging with any of the latter. I have encountered it with both, but there are levels here

The negativity must flow. Could you imagine people just talking about things that give them joy? Yeah that's crazy.

the levels:
the average pantera fan is not articulate enough to overrate the band
neither is the average tool fan but this is has never stopped them trying so very hard
the average DT fan is frighteningly capable of talking that band up
and opeth fans are bang in the middle of the DT/tool venn diagram
what are the other bands

What a bad time to take a sip of Club Mate. Spraying it out of the nose was pretty unpleasant. Thanks, Johnny.

"the average pantera fan is not articulate enough to overrate the band"
hmm, I've been meditating on this...
when weighing up whether I would prefer to be embroiled in a 'debate' with exhibit a) Pants Airer, or exhibit b) massive Tool I had to take the duration of this inevitable tedium into account. The encounter with Pants would no doubt be fleeting, mercifully swift. Sure, his bald shiny skull would come crashing into my gullet within seconds, but at least it'd be over. Massive Tool would be like death by a thousand cuts, a never-ending barrage of inane nonsense transporting me to the abyss through sheer despondence
on balance I would rather this be over with the upmost haste, hence reluctantly, give me an encounter with pants
signed - I'm an Opeth fan, actually

Spiral out. Keep going.

Tool is spiraling out to other band threads. We have talked enough about BI here but Tool is LODGED.

How can you even talk about subjects of enjoyment if it's not opposed by the despised outgroup? How can you even have true feeling of belonging to in-group, and the joy it brings without the hate of different-minded in this polarized world of ours? Duality of men truly.

One could add to the list people interested in straighter/retro prog, but overall, this statement sums it up. I'd also add that their genre-mashing moves are fundamentally creative, perhaps moving into something new.

"Didn't you give Where Owls Know My Name a 4.5?"
Yes, they had 1 lightning in a bottle album and pretty much everything else has been decent to downright awful
I was just kinda shitposting to be honest but overall I really am not understanding the hype this band and album are getting
