"I was claiming that repetition or homogeneity isn’t necessarily a problem and can actually be desirable in certain circumstances."
oh yeah fs sorry that wasn't @you - and v much agreed, anyone still using repetition as an inherent critique in 2023 needs to be chained to a chair and subjected to Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records at 200dB until they repent and/or their ears fall off

Yeah whenever someone uses repetition as a point of critique i completely write them off ngl. Elementary school level critique

small subclause to this entirely warranted ad hom = possible exemptions may occasionally be afforded based purely on the quality of their top 3 flashcore albums

tbh I do feel there's likely a distinction here between repetition as a motif and repetition in terms of like album-wide issues (if song structures/progressions/etc. become very linear, making the experience repetitive in a stale sort of way?) The former can still be problematic, but that's dependent upon how it's executed.
As for if THIS is repetitive, I'd have to listen again, and uh, nope...

A motif repeating within a song can 100% go on for too long.

Yes, that would fall under the "how it's executed" label.
Repetition is a tool in an artists' arsenal, and like any tool it can be misused/mishandled/whatever and ever amen.
