I'm not a fan of the lyrics on this one... or the production. Yeah, so hmm. It's possible the new one won't be my jam either but who knows!
It ain't tea! ...... time!

Am I the only one that doesn't really care about lyrics in music? That said, have very low expectations for this new album

The importance of lyrics shifts from artist to artist.
It's simply impossible to enjoy modern Taylor without fully buying into her mythology because the songs are not allowed to breathe instrumentally. There is a word uttered nearly every second of every song's runtime, belaboring whatever capital-W Wordsmith idea she is trying to get across. The problem is, there's no stakes. Nothing feels dangerous or urgent or even real. When she sings about being a heartbroken drunkard, I don't believe her even though I know that probably happened.
The Tortured Poets Department is caked in so many layers of irony and self-awareness that it becomes impossible to follow any of those threads sincerely. Some of these awful lines are clearly meant to jokes, but you can't really parse them unless you are paying close attention because the tone hardly shifts. It creates this nauseating sense of plausible deniability where little is wagered on any of the dozens of gambits where she is supposedly being vulnerable.
And that's to say nothing about bringing the actual particulars of these relationships into play.
I don't know, it feels like she just really wants to be Lana but doesn't have the juice.

I don’t give a shit about lyrics if the vocalist is unintelligible, which is probably like 90% of the music I listen to, but yes lyrics are very important for something like this. Like I used the phoebe example, if phoebe wrote shit lyrics I wouldn’t listen to her.

that blue nile reference is so on the nose lmao

Taylor is just so lol random and you just don’t get it - she’s just having fun and you’re just a sexist hater if you don’t get it!
This is probably the only thing TSwift adjacent that I enjoy: https://youtu.be/nt35fWvtRlA?si=2j90limx5YUEM5LV

Anti-Hero has a verse that goes
"I should not be left to my own devices
They come with prices and vices
I end up in crisis (tale as old as time)
I wake up screaming from dreaming
One day I'll watch as you're leaving
'Cause you got tired of my scheming
(For the last time)"
I do think she comes out with some great lines but I do find that when she's bad, she's pretty dreadful. See above.
