Saw they’re playing locust reign and forsaken on this current tour but still no love for this album

@DeadBitch: no, but a change in sound can be experimental for the band in question, even if it's not necessarily so striking, when compared to their peers. Axe is their most 'metal' album and it's always stood out as the oddball release in their discog, to me at least.

The problem is that Axe isnt that drastic of a switch-up from anything theyve done. If anything When Forever is when they first started playing around with elements that their later albums have making it more oddball as it was them first solidifying themselves. Much more Tech Thrash influence on this that isnt prominent on thier later stuff too, only other release where they go high on the Tech Thrash influence is Petitioning which also is weirder and more experimental than Axe considering how you could easily describe it as Tech Thrash Emocore. When Forever is far more technical than Axe is too. Axe is more Metal sure but the foundations already layed down by albums like Jane Doe and No Heroes are present on it. If anything Axe is probably one of their most accessible due to its production and more prominent Metal elements.

I pretty much agree with Alexis
Also I’m gonna make it a point to say “tech thrash emocore” as often as possible

If I gotta use 3 separate genre words to describe a genre I’m typically gonna just not do that

I didn’t say anything about accessibility, Axe is relatively accessible as far as I can tell. Interesting that you mentioned PTES as I always found that a little more experimental than this and definitely has the trash riffage in abundance, but that might be due to the fact it’s a collection of recordings from a period of time, rather than a traditional album (I still refute the ‘compilation’ tag, just doesn’t sit well with me). I don’t necessarily disagree with your general point though i.e. what this brought to the table sound-wise.
This feels like a prelude to Jane, whereas PTES & Axe are more distinct in my mind. Maybe it’s just because I heard this one last (out of those releases).

How is Axe more distinct when all it did was accessiblize what they had done before? Where did I ever say you said it wasnt accessible, I was literally just bringing that up to further prove the point that WFCC is far more experimental and different from the rest of their discog, Axe doesnt experiment with anything they hadnt before so how the hell does it stand out more

axe they just turned up the thrash element to their -core sound, its no more experimental than any other converge imo
axe almost feels like the sequel to this lol, cause this one is like the end of their thrash-first approach but alongside a distinct converge-core sound that almost sounds like them creeping out the 90s into the 2000s

"This feels like a prelude to Jane"
I wonder why hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Yeah, therefore making it less distinct than Axe which doesn’t sound like a prelude, or a specific continuation of anything before it, although I see people disagree with that. The fact it’s common knowledge they upped the metal elements for Axe shows that it’s different, for me that’s where it separates itself from the rest. That’s not to say it doesn’t sound like Converge, or it’s origins cannot be traced.

Yes, they do have a lot of good shit. Band has been on a slow decline. Forgivable, considering how everything up to and including Axe to Fall was pretty incredible - apart from No Heroes, of course.
