SWB took me around a week to get comfortable with. I think there are 2 or 3 classics on it now, but I still haven't come around on the title track or Turtleneck.

The strings at the end of “Quiet Light” kill me, best use of them on the album and I’m more and more convinced that song’s an all-timer.

Where Is Her Head straight up reminds me of 2000’s era Broken Social Scene

That is a perfect description of Where Is Her Head.

This is probably my least favourite National record since the self titled. That been said, it still is great.

I hear that, and it is my fave tune here...but I prefer The National to BSS by A LOT so yet more evidence as to why this just isn't sitting right for me

I'm actually kind of glad they did this, to be honest... even though I can't quite wrap my head around it. Feels like they're still progressing. I know this is going to crack open for me... the quality is there.

I can agree with that Doof.

I think it’s an interesting sound for them, and one of the only tunes (besides the title-track) where the guest vocals add anything to the song.

gots - it’s a good track but the more I listen the more I suspect I’m still overrating it as - like a lot of songs here - it could do with shedding a minute of tape.

I think I’m trying to look for positives too much, especially trying to see one song here as deserving of National ‘top tier’ billing

The sad likelihood is the novelty of the National recording a 3.5 out of 5 level BSS track will wear off with each listen

I really enjoy this take on the album, it explains a lot of what I like and don’t like about it without casting too strong an opinion on overall quality.

Gonna sadly drop this down another notch. The magic keeps escaping with every listen.

I dropped mine 0.2 to an even 4.5

Huge slide

But in all seriousness I feel it slipping too. Maybe I just heard it in the wrong setting today. For whatever reason both times I listened to this in the car were my favorite times.

Yep, I can't escape the feeling that this is a prime case of style over substance. There isn't a hint of nuance to these songs, they're all pretty surface level.

I'm 33 pages late to this but looking forward to hover between doof's 2.5 and the general public 4.5s

So far Quiet Light is a 4.5

Roman Holiday is a 2.5.

My first listen blew me away and since then it's lost a little bit of its edge. Still convinced this is an excellent record though. Curious what you'll think.
