Yes thats not chugging but its still incredibly simplistic for a Prog album. Ive said it before but whenever the album isnt chugging it fails to be anything more than simplistic.

@jester thanks for a legitimate response, that’s refreshing. I can see where you’re coming from. Personally I do feel like it has a couple curve balls, the stretch from around 9:00-10:30 is particularly good imo and blends melodic with heavy really well. Anyway, to each his own.

Regarding “nonstop shredding” and “pointless wankery”, honestly I don’t even know lmao there are a couple sweet guitar solos sprinkled throughout the album and I think they’re well-placed and well-written. That’s about it fam

"Man this thread really is terrible."

Pretty standard for a Periphery thread tbh, especially on the week of release.

@slicepaper what are your thoughts on Chvrch Bvrner? It’s not simple by any means and there’s not a lot of chugging. When there is chugging, it’s fast and nasty

I kinda wish this album was a little more djenty. I dunno about you guys but I love those djenty greasy riffs sometimes. I still think they needed one more heavy as balls track on the second half. Would’ve been ideal if they replaced Crush with an absolute heater. Like a real Meshuggah-esque-using-8-strings banger. Great album nonetheless.

slicepaper: "They reverted back to what made P1 so god damn unbearable with tons of monotone generic chugging thats just glorified 90s Groove Metal riffs"

Chvrch Burner wasnt all that complex tbh. Maybe compared to the rest but its still too melodically basic and its chorus is pretty slowed down.

I liked these guys on Juggernaut:Alpha where they were being more melodic.

@darius see, I always felt like Alpha was boring. There are like 4 songs that are just slow boring power chords that dont really go anywhere

@Darius they aren't that different tbh, this one is just a little bit heavier, hell Alpha even had Four Lights which was heavy as shit and the most unmelodic thing you could think of
