I don't even listen to rap and this might be my AOTY! Em is the only raper I like, his flow is just so technical, I'd love to see lil pump rap that fast haha

MGK is definition of an easy target. most irrelevant beef [2]

I’ll honestly never understand people’s beef with Em’s modern flows. (Mainly talking bout on this record)

the fast rap thing feels gimmicky

I just think it sounds nice idk

its outdated tbh

They're impressive from a technical standpoint but don't exactly make for good songs on their own. It's like the same thing as John 5 or Joe Satriani being amazing guitar virtuosos but not being able to make good songs just because they are guitar virtuosos. Being technically proficient doesn't make you a good songwriter.

^^ talent =/= pleasure
I'm not even that impressed with fast rapping anymore, esp since Logic drove that style into the fuqin dirt

Idk I derive plenty of pleasure from it. Like I hear what your guys’ complaints are, but I just don’t agree at all.
Also, I’ve only heard one Joe Satriani album, Surfing With The Alien, but that one ducking kills. So unless his quality dipped majorly after that... 🤷🏻♂️
Also have never even heard a Logic song where he rapped fast. But I’ve also only heard three or four of his tracks and wasn’t very interested haha

logic is trash you arent missing anything
fast rapping isn't inherently bad (in fact from a technical viewpoint quite the opposite) but without proper song-writing it just does nothing for me.
and his point is just cuz a guitarist can ShREd doesn't make them automatically legendary

Yeah that makes sense. I guess the differing opinion then just comes down to what we find to be proper song-writing, which is obviously fine.
And I understood his point, which is why I didn’t comment on John 5 haha. I only mentioned Joe Satriani because of that album I had heard of his that was sweet, so I was just confused by his inclusion.

I don't dislike those guys, they have some great songs. But they also have a lot of material that's just them strumming their guitars with their dicks because they can. It's the same thing with Em's newer material. His technical proficiency is a means to an end. It shouldn't be considered the end itself.

technical ability is nice and all but it gets boring after 5 minutes, that's why no one likes Dream Theater anymore

I know everyone is absolutely sick of Kendrick on this site but he's a great example of someone who tastefully injects the super tech-y flows into his stuff without being too reliant/overbearing with it.

There are 2-3 parts on this record where he does the fast rapping, but it's not like a gimmick that he does every song. And if anything I think, he has become so used to doing it, that he just raps that way without even doing it consciously anymore. But, I agree that Killshot was good exactly because he didn't rely on his usual tricks and rhyme schemes that he's been using the past decade.

The 2-3 times on here + his feature on Nicki Minaj's album + the 2-3 times he did it on revival + the chloroseptic remix + the time he did it on Big Sean's album = 7-9 maybe even more times he's done it over the last two years alone that I can think of off the top of my head.

The chloraseptic verse was incredible c'mon. His flow there was impeccable, and it's one of his "fast rapping" songs I can absolutely stand by.
But yeah, he's overused it and needs to take a step back.

This is automatically better than his last bunch of albums just because it's shorter and doesn't have awful features.
