Darius is a hardcore country kind of guy. He grew out of trip hop a few months ago. He's living his dream of being a hardcore cowboy.

well, time for my first full APC album, let's see how this goes. I'm halfway through the opener and I'm sorta confused

Turn back. Listen to Mer de Noms and then Thirteenth Step. And stay clear of Emotive except for Passive

Couple good songs, but the rest is garbage. It will get praise just for Maynard though.

I can't understand the hatred towards emotive, I always thought the first half of the album was excellent well taking out gimme gimme gimme, and the second half is average, first 3 songs are cool (freedom of choice is one of my favourite covers) but the last 3 are garbage

Emotive doesn't do much for me aside from Passive and Levee (basically an original song, sounds nothing like the original or the Zep version imo) which are both excellent.

I don't like the idea of using covers as a way for an album to have a message. If it's one song, that's fine, but using practically an entire album's worth of covers? People don't really resonate with your message when you're constantly using someone else's words.
Emotive is an album that has something to say yet doesn't really say anything.

Passive, Imagine, Peace Love Understanding and What’s Going On are excellent. Everything else is shit.

Not only was it not great, it completely killed all the momentum they had built up for the next 15 fucking years. Which actually explains why the first 15 minutes of this are mostly quiet piano and vocals. They were STILL a bit dazed from running into the brick wall like that.

I just take it for what it was: a covers album. It's a decent attempt at that but I hardly count it as an LP.

Yea it shouldn’t even be in the LP section actually.

It is a studio album so it's right where it belongs. Just because it's not particularly great doesn't mean it's not a "real" LP.

it's def an LP because that's how APC released it, but the argument that it's not a real LP stems more from the content than the quality of music present

Ocean I’m not talking about the quality. I’m saying I always thought it was a compilation because it’s a cover album. I guess not.

I mean it's a funny thing... On the other hand, it is a compilation of songs from various different artists. On the other, they were recorded in the same sessions and released together like an LP.
I think the argument for it being an LP is stronger than for it being a compilation. That being said, I understand seeing is as a bit of a step to the side from their other LPs. I think of this album as being a follow-up to Thirteenth Step rather than as a follow-up to eMOTIVe.
