@dewinged: sounds very interesting indeed! :0 will have to check
@y'all: idk, it does make me wonder what specifically mean to call something 'uninspired'. like, i know what it means, i know it when i see it, but i don't know how to describe it.
i disagree with colton's implication that it must be because the artist wants money only. idk, sometimes you just want to make art, but you don't know what of. and sometimes you're really inspired/'hit' by something more abstract, and want to portray that in a piece, but don't know how, or you stumble your way through it

pizza: fuck you no it isn't. have you researched the art style? do you know what she took inspiration from for that? do you know the amount of time that went into it? the story behind it?

Speaking from decades of composition experience, when writing more complex music, you can easily catch yourself fall into a number of pitfalls. It might be self-copying, it might be adding or arranging a section in such a way that is "artsy for the sake of being artsy," it might be just crap writing covered in good production. Even if you are inspired to create something, you may not be translating that inspiration very well. Even if you feel the flame of the muse, you may let your ego get in the way of the process of the piece. But at least I am self-aware enough to find when I hit those pitfalls in my writing and eschew the mistakes. I cannot say that about almost all the artists I used to enjoy that have shat their britches with filler albums to have an excuse to tour.
Basically, Colton, this idol worship of yours is one example of countless mindless fans who encourage so many bands to continue down the road of mediocrity ornamented with a big production, member berries, and yes men. You are ironically the one incapable of having a discussion on musical merits because you refuse to analyze the music anyway. You are running on pure emotion. It's sad. So sad that I came back after 12 years just to tell you so.

wow how am I not surprised that unknown user fireaboveicebelow's 12 years of composition experience did not manifest into a cogent argument regarding assumptions about an artist's intentions... try spending some of that composing time on reading comprehension skills and if that doesn't work, you can always go work in a comedy club and attain the highest level of argumentative powers. love the bit about "self awareness" though which your comment just utterly exudes

hey guys, I just want to let you know that making assumptions about artists you don't know is actually a good thing because I have 12 years of experience making very, very complex music

...rapped Colton's faded keyboard, his teeth gnashing in the anguish and fury of his inability to address anything whatsoever! This was not one of his proudest moments, but he knew... he knew he could do no better.
EDIT: lol at mocking reading comprehension when you have gotten my years of experience wrong twice now.

I don't know which part you want me to address. is it the weird unrelated rant about your own music? were you gonna drop a link? or was it the weird unfounded "idol worship" remark for an artist I actually criticize frequently? let me know

sorry sorry my bad. you've been making cringe attempts at bedroom black metal for decades, not 12 years. I respect your Bjork criticisms so much more now
as for having a discussion on musical merits.. I might do that more than anyone else on this site. don't believe me? stay tuned! it's almost time. alternatively, disappear for another 12 years, I have a feeling we'll be alright

I mean you have to give it to the man, it's pretty fucking funny that you tried to rail on him for having bad reading comprehension when you basically misquoted him twice. I normally wouldn't be so pedantic as to make fun of someone for that, but when you attempt to shit on him for the same thing you're doing, you open yourself up to justifiable ridicule

mixing up numbers from a way too long wall of text is not indicative of reading comprehension in the way as interpreting "unfounded assumptions about artists are less productive than musical discussion" as idol worship.I would hope that I wouldn't have to actually explain this to someone earnestly but I understand you're taking whatever you can get here
