You can tell she was only 16 when she made PH because the list of topics she was singing about were very limited

20 year olds write about the same shit.

"Also revisiting the whole 'boyfriend in the car' topic on Hard Feelings has added poignancy because this time it's when they presumably decided to call it quits or when she knew the relationship wasn't going to work as opposed to on PH when it was comforting for her to drive around the suburbs with her boyfriend. In a way this album is her losing her innocence and that's reflected in the darker and more reflective lyrics."

Another PH parallel-

Last track on PH: "cause were dancing in a world alone"

Last track on here: "Now I can't stand to be alone"

Maybe "a world alone" used to be Lorde's idea of a perfect place, but after the breakup(s?), she no longer feels like she knows what "the fuck" a perfect place is??

Also I'm beginning to think the "All of our heroes fading" line is more of a direct reference to David Bowie than just a reference to just all/any of the musicians/celebrities that have died lately. David Bowie's "Heroes" has always seemed to me to be about being young and invincible, and now that she is growing up, the feeling of being young and invincible is "fading" for her

Lorde's taking artistic risks on this album she would never have dreamed of doing on PH, this is easily the superior album IMO

Oh that heroes fading line is definitely a reference to Bowie, no doubt about that

I think her age helped add appeal to the previous release.

She's extremely precocious (maybe that's why I take to her so much)

"If anything bitch has gotten too old."

doof have you been making a conscious effort to make the most embarrassing old-man-in-the-grocery-line creepy comments of all time in this thread? or is it just an unconscious thing that kind of happens like a bowel movement?
