I mean, NeO aren't the most original but they still kick ass.

Seriously. I cant think of any other band that incorporates flamenco,classical and folk elements with metal without failure. I'd love to hear an argument that they are not a creative force on their debut. Just using violin is a bad move for most metal bands. Granted there are moments of predictable melo-death riffage on Portal of I.

At the Gates' debut had a violin player, I'm pretty sure, and most their fans seem to love it. My Dying Bride is another good violin-sporting band.

I wish more prog metal bands would focus on being more original like Maudlin of the Well or Ne Obliviscaris.

Its true tbh. Not much tech death worth listening to other than Atheist, Gorguts, Demilich and Nile. Even Nile have gone down hill with time. The worst offenders are the neoclassical Jason Becker worship types.
