Oh, so good.

There is nothing original about riffs here, the praised heaviness of this album is nothing short of a straight predictability, and I claim this as a long-time Chevelle fan. This band is capable of more, they showcased it best on La Gargola, and Corridor for me is a step backwards. But anyway it possesses a bunch of worthwhile hooks. "Punchline", an eerie industrial prophecy of an impending doom; "Rivers" with its contrasts and interesting use of flamenco-esque guitar passage; "Shot from a cannon", a fierce behemoth where Chevelle finally releases their inner Tool knowing neither mercy nor remorse; and a pleasant surprise of "A Miracle", quite soulful and touching ballad. It seems like the album's "mission" lies precisely in these songs.

Wow, it did actually settle at a 3.8! Even when we know the pattern, it's unavoidable.

I know, it's beyond the point of "weird" now.

Great album, just like La Gargola. Punchline is sweet

I hated this on first listen but it kind of grew on me a little bit. There's something almost hypnotic about how relentlessly one-note it is.

Enemies and The last day are the best tracks here.

I say this as a huge Chevelle fan — Its a solid album but it’s definitely their worst (aside from Point #1). Just feels very one note. They’re capable of much more (see La Gargola).

I find it absolutely amazing how each new Chevelle album caters to at least some portion of their fanbase, and how it's a different portion each time that is lured in by it. How does the band make every album have its own niche flavor but still sticking to the same tricks they've pulled for years. Go ask any Chevelle fan what their favourite album is...or even better what their favourite song from each album is and you'll get vastly different answers every time.

True that man. That said I would say the two most consistent bands out there are Chevelle and Deftones (I would say Tool but they obviously don’t produce enough music to hold that title).
Chevelle delivers quality every time, to varying degrees. My top four Chevelle albums in order: Sci fi Crimes, Hats off to the Bull, La Gargola, then Wonder What’s Next. So as you can deduce, my ideal Chevelle album is an equal mix of heavy and melodic (sci fi and HOTTB). But I also like their heavy side (WWN and LG).
But with TNC, I feel like they mostly left out the melody and only brought the heavy. And I still like it quite a bit, but it’s not MY ideal Chevelle album.

Dang larkin you and me have some similar opinions. I think their best is hats off and then Sci fi
And I agree with you on this album
